Mark Grant Passes Away

We all knew the day was coming that one of our siblings or their spouses would pass away.  Though Ken and I are both at the end of our families (I am fourth of five and Ken is sixth of eight) we have not lost a sibling or any of their spouses- until now.  That day finally came on August 19th.  Mark Grant, Lorene's (Ken's only sister) husband passed away from complications of pneumonia.  He had been sick for a couple of weeks, suspecting it was pneumonia.  When they took him to the doctor, he was immediately hospitalized and intubated.  He has been unhealthy for several years and was wheelchair bound because of sores on his feet due to diabetes.  But this illness came on quite suddenly.  It was a slow, painful death once he was intubated.  He died on his and Lorene's 46th wedding anniversary.  It was our 45th anniversary.  They were married exactly one year before us.

Obituary

Mark Edwin Grant, age 67, passed away on August 19, 2022 at St. George Regional Hospital surrounded by his family, including his wife and all six of his children.

Mark was born in Cache Valley on September 17, 1954 to Howard Melvin, Jr. and Ethleen Johnson Grant.  He grew up on a dairy farm in Trenton, Utah, and graduated from Sky View High School and later from Utah State University.  He served a mission to Australia, where he met his beloved eternal companion.

Mark was a devoted husband and father whose passion for travel was shared with his family whenever possible.  He was an avid fisherman, sports enthusiast, and die-hard USU Aggie fan.  He loved his Heavenly Father and Savior, Jesus Christ, and had a testimony that he could one day live with them again.

Mark is survived by his wife, Lorene; six children: Bronwyn Grant-Nielson, Stephanie Pratt (Joshua), Kendall Grant, Spencer Grant (Mindy), Nephi Grant (Aubrey), and Monica Grant; 10 grandchildren; and four of his five siblings.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 26, 2022 at 10:30am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saint chapel located at 446 E. Mangum Road, Washington, Utah 84780  There will be a viewing prior to services at the same location from 9:00-10:15am

Graveside services will be held Saturday, August 27, 2022 at 10:00am at the Hyde Park Utah Cemetery.

Mark was a USU sports fan.  His grandsons honored him by wearing USU ties to the funeral.
Pictures from the viewing and family prayer.  All of Lorene's siblings and spouses were there, as well as many of the next generation and the next.  It was a very nice family reunion.

It was a lovely service.  All of their six kids participated.  All did such a good job.
Afterward was a lovely luncheon prepared by the ward.  It was so nice to visit with loved ones from far and near.

It was so tempting as I looked at these pictures and wrote their names to tell good things about these people, but I won't do that now.  The Hinton family is full of wonderful, admirable people.  We are blessed to be members of this great family.  So many of these cousins are very accomplished and are raising fine families.  It was fun to see them rejoicing in being together.

The graveside service was held the next morning up in Hyde Park, Utah.  Mark's grandfather was an original founder of Hyde Park and they chose to be buried there.  Shonna lives about a mile from that cemetery and attended the service.  Mark is by far the youngest of his siblings.  They chose to attend the graveside service rather than travel to the funeral.  Each of them shared a memory of Mark.
Mark loved bagpipes, so they had someone play them at the service.  Cute Janelle also lives in Logan and got some cute selfies with cousins.

Such a big and supportive family, Kay. That is the best thing about funerals is they bring everyone together.
