How I loved this dear lady. We became friends years ago. I was Relief Society President when her daughter, Kristie passed away. Kristie had a three year old son, Kayson. They lived with Merle at the time. After Kristie's death, Merle and her husband adopted Kayson and raised him. He is now a tall, fine young adult, who adored his mom/ grandma. Merle is truly one of my heroes. She decided she wanted Kayson to have the teachings of the gospel, and started attending church, bringing him every week. She faithfully attended the rest of her life, serving in many positions. She served as Primary secretary for many years. She was efficient and organized.
