What Did You Learn?

Our cute grandson Gabe is a character.  It takes a tremendous amount of effort to get him out the door in the mornings to catch the bus for school.  He likes to dawdle.  One morning Shonna reminded and reminded and reminded and he still wasn't even dressed.  His sisters left for the bus stop without him.  Finally, Shonna said, "If you miss the bus you will have to walk to school."  It was very cold and snowy outside.  She then went in her bedroom and hoped against hope that he would hurry.  Finally she could hear him ready to go, so she ran out and gave him a hug, then watched as he ran up the hill at the same time the bus was climbing the hill to the bus stop.  When he didn't come back, she assumed he had made it.

That afternoon after school, she asked if he had made it and he said yes.  She then asked him, "What did you learn?"  He thought for a minute and said, "I learned I can run as fast as the bus."  Sigh.  That wasn't exactly what she was hoping for.

A Man Called Otto

I read the book, we watched the original movie "A Man Called Ove" and we now watched this new version with Tom Hanks, "A Man Called Otto."  It is so good.  It is one of the best movies we have ever seen.  It moved us to tears.  It is all about caring and ministering to others.  We watched it on Netflix.

Spring 2023 Keynote Concert Recording

In case you are interested, here is the link to our Keynote spring concert.  Cindi's (bottom far right) son recorded the entire concert.  He sat behind my sister, Pam and brother-in-law, Roger, so they are in it.  Our theme is "O America."

A Week in Cancun, Mexico

Ken and I spent a week at an all-inclusive resort in Cancun, Mexico May 9th-16th.  It was a fun, relaxing week.

Ready to fly from St. George airport

The first leg of our journey from St. George to Dallas was miserable, creating  tremendous pain in my back.  But the flight from Dallas to Cancun was very comfortable.  We ended up with a whole row of seats each.

We got dinner at the Dallas airport.  The clerk where we ate was sure Ken was this actor, JK Simmons.  She thought she was serving a celebrity.  What do you think?  Do you see the resemblance?

We stayed at the Royalton Chic Cancun resort.  It was very nice.

Ken took some beautiful pictures of the resort and views therefrom.

Ken had read about the sargassum seaweed problem in the oceans.  We saw it firsthand.  It had a distinctive smell, too.

Hot dude.

Ken took several pictures of this site.  What he was really trying to capture was the bird on the rock.  He wanted to capture it so he could key it down when he got back to the room.  It ended up being a new life lister for him- a Brown Noddy.

We spent our afternoons down by the ocean and poolside.  It was so beautiful and pleasant.

Cancun and our resort were all about partying.  One day they filled the pool with bubbles, played loud music and danced and danced.  Drunk people are quite entertaining.

At the far end of the pool was a walk-up bar.  Most of the people congregated by the bar.  One afteroon, we watched as two young women were so drunk they required assistance to get out of the pool and the staff brought a wheelchair because they were too drunk to walk.

Our window seats at a restaurant.

The food was absolutely delicious.  We usually ate breakfast and lunch at the amazing buffet and dinner in a specialty restaurant.

Every lunch, they offered grilled fish and seafood that they would grill to order.  Wow, it was good.

We ate in the Mexican restaurant the first night.  This was a tomato soup with seafood. So yummy!

A seafood cocktail.

Because of the humidity, salt wouldn't come out of the salt shakers.  Ken loves salt.  He got a lot at the Mexican restaurant in a small bowl, so he put it in a ziploc to carry with him and use throughout the week.  Problem solved.

We drank a lot of virgin pina coladas and strawberry daiquiris

The 2nd night we ate at the Asian restaurant.  Everything was beautifully presented and delicious.

Well, all except the dessert.  This dessert was beautiful, but tasted terrible.

The Italian restaurant was our least favorite of all of them.  Though this appetizer buffet was delicious.

They gave us the best table in the house.  The view was gorgeous.

Our favorite restaurant was the steak house.  We ate there three nights.  Everything was delicious.  My favorite was the salmon.  Ken loved the short ribs.

Creme brulee'- Ken's favorite dessert was offered every night.

We enjoyed the week.  We both read and studied a lot .  We swam every afternoon and, as is evident, enjoyed the delicious food.
