Vermont and New Hampshire- the Food

We ate well in Vermont and New Hampshire.  In each place we found a restaurant we liked for breakfast and one for dinner and went back to them most every day.  There were not enough restaurants in either place for all of the fall visitors to eat.  So we had to figure out how to get in to eat without waiting forever.

Vermont's breakfast spot was this Main Street Restaurant and Bakery.  We made a reservation every morning at 10:30am.  We saw them turn many, many people away who didn't have reservations.

For dinner we ate at Martell's at the Red Fox.  We had reservations every night at five.

In New Hampshire, we ate at Flapjacks.  You couldn't make reservations there, so you had to get there early.  By 8:00am, the line was out the door.

New Hampshire's dinner spot was The Common Man.  Again, they didn't make reservations.  You had to get there by 5:00pm, or you had a long wait.
So now, let me show you some of the food.
This looks awful, but it was delicious.  We both had this at the Main Street Bakery.  It was an egg on toast with cheese and sausage gravy on it.  Heart attack on a plate there, folks.
We had delicious hot chocolate every morning
We both had omelettes at the Main Street Bakery and they were very good.  Toast made from their fresh baked bread was delicious.
The first day we had breakfast at our resort.  It was good too.
This pork tenderloin was one of the highlight dinners at Martell's.

Ken loved this barbecue chicken dinner at Martell's.

On Friday night at Martell's, they held a big Fall festival outside.  They had booths and live music.  The featured dinner was this New England boil.  It was a fun cultural experience. It was shrimp, andoulade sausage, corn, and red potatoes in a spicy broth.

I had fish tacos one night at Martell's.  They were good, but I realized that Mexican food is best in the west!

I ordered Macaroni and cheese one night and was very disappointed.  I only ate a little of it.  I did take a box home, but ended up throwing it away.  You win some and you lose some.

This was one of the best meals of the trip.  It was called Nantucket Pie.  The Common Man in New Hampshire had absolutely delicious dinners, and we both agreed this was one of the best.  It was a seafood pie. It had shrimp, white fish, scallops, and lobster in a delicious sauce and a crumb topping.

Also at The Common Man, this beef pot roast was crazy good.

The meatloaf at The Common Man was really yummy.

Each night the breadbasket at The Common Man had delicious rolls and some kind of sweet bread.

One of the features at The Common Man was a cart where you could serve your own crackers and cheese.

This was the one dish at The Common Man that I ordered twice.  It was stuffed chicken breast with a maple cream sauce.  It was so amazing.

The first night in New Hampshire, we couldn't find a restaurant that wasn't swarmed with people.  We finally ate at a specialty burger place.  We had to wait until after 8 to eat.  Neither of us got burgers.  I got this delicious philly steak sandwich.  Ken got a Coney Island hot dog.

We enjoyed our German dinner at the Von Trapp Family Lodge Restaurant.  The Weiner schnitzel was delicious.

This was the one dish at The Common Man that wasn't too great.  Ken ordered it.  It was cheese stuffed tortellini in a very strange squash sauce.

The first night we were in Vermont, we couldn't find anywhere to eat.  All of restaurants at the resort were closed except this pizza place.  We barely got there in time before they closed.  The pizza was pretty good.
They wrote the dessert menu on a chalkboard each day at Martells.  We only had dessert one time.  Ken had the orange creamsickle float.  I had the flourless chocolate cake.  Both were delicious.

We both enjoyed our ice cream treats at Ben and Jerry's.  I had a sundae and Ken had a mixture of flavors of ice cream.

As you can see, we had delicious food in Vermont and New Hampshire.  Now if you will excuse me, I am going to go and have some breakfast.  Creating this post has made me hungry!
