Bar Harbor, Maine

Our first port on the cruise was on Monday, October 10th.  We anchored near Bar Harbor, Maine and tendered into the port.

This was the port Ken was most excited about.  His plan was to rent a bicycle and then bike the carriage trails in Acadia National Park.
He brought all of his warm bicycling gear.  We parted ways at the shore.  He was going biking.  I was going shopping up Main Street.

After walking and shopping for a while, I checked my phone to see where Ken was.  He was not in Acadia National Park, but still in Bar Harbor.  I called him.  He indeed was still in Bar Harbor.  He had checked at all four bike shops and none of them had a bike left to rent. It was a long holiday (Columbus Day) weekend, and many people were in town.  He was so disappointed and so was I - for him.  He took the above pictures around town and then we met up and instead of the beautiful bike ride through gorgeous fall leaves he anticipated, he ended going in and out of shops all day with me!  Bummer.  He was a good sport about it.
The park was beautiful with color popping out all over.

I love this picture.  It is one of my favorites of the whole trip.

Downtown Bar Harbor.  It is such a cute town.

I loved that there were benches everywhere.

I had two goals in Bar Harbor.  One was to taste a lobster roll.

We bought one and split it.  Ken wasn't crazy about it, but I was not disappointed.  My other goal was to find a piece of pottery with lilacs like I had seen in a shop there when we were there in 2006. I have regretted not buying it ever since.  I know, a long shot.  I didn't find it there, but a few days later I found something similar in a little shop in St. John.  I was so happy.

On the tender back to the ship.

A pilot boat escorted us out of the harbor.

It was a great day in Bar Harbor, Maine.

Bummer dad didn't get his bike ride. I love Bar Harbor. Pronounced "bwa ha-ba" right?
