July 15 Flam, Norway

The plan for Flam was that Tom and Ken would go out early in the morning to see if they could get tickets for all of us to ride the train up the mountain, arriving at the ticket booth when they opened. They did that, but the tickets were sold out except there were two one-way tickets available.  Those would allow them to ride the train up the mountain and ride bikes back down.  They bought those. They came back and and told us. They then rented bikes and put them on the train. They rode the train up the mountain. Then they rode the bikes down the mountain road.  It was a fabulous experience and highlight of the trip for both of them.

The trip on the train up the mountain.

A legend from this area is that there is a lady dressed in red that tempts men into the forest.  When they follow her they never come back.  Can you see her?

There she is.  Stay away from her!

At the train station.

When they got to the top, they had to hurry to claim the bikes they had rented.  People were just grabbing them.  A guy grabbed Ken's, but Ken told him it was his. I guess everyone could see how fun it would be to ride down.

It was a beautiful ride down the mountain.  They took many pictures.

It was a beautiful ride along a river through gorgeous countryside

They stopped at an old church and cemetery.

Boat houses.  This taken from our balcony.

I did get off the boat and shopped near the pier.
