In the Presence of Masters

National Museum of Art
Monday, July 5
Travel home day. After saying goodbye to Brian, Michelle, and Gabbi, we headed to the airport. Our flight was scheduled for 11:30am, so we arrived at the airport at 9:30am to find our flights had been changed. Our new departure time was 1:45pm. So, we checked the luggage, took the Metro to the National Museum of Art- Smithsonian. So, instead of a three hour layover in Cincinnati later (as on our previous flight plan) , we were in the presence of the masters for a couple of hours: Monet, Cassat, Renoir, Picaso, Degas, etc, within minutes of walking into the museum. They even had a checkroom where we could leave our carry-on bags. Life is good. We spent a couple of hours strolling through the cool rooms of one of our favorite places on earth. I love that museum. My fantasy is to live there like in that book, oh what was it, "From the Mixed of Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler." That was set in New York, but I digress. . . .
We underestimated the time it would take to get back and get through security, etc, so we barely made the plane, but it was worth it. We loved it. The rest of the day was spent in travel home. We had hoped to get home in time to view fireworks, but found our town had done them on Saturday night instead. So this was a fireworks-less Fourth of July Holiday (a little ironic since millions flock to DC to see the fireworks on this holiday!), but that's okay.
What a great trip/reunion we had. Thank you, thank you everyone in our family for the sacrifices you made to be there ( I figure you guys are the only ones who made it to the end of this blogfest), and thank you to Shonna and Blake for planning it. See you next year in???????????

Oh, that was WONDERFUL!!! Thank you so much for documenting all of that. How cool that you got to see another Smithsonian before going home.

I LOVE that picture of Gabbi, Melli and the Christus. Priceless.

Thanks for all of YOUR sacrifices to make it work! I am one spoiled, lucky kid to have such an amazing family. Thanks, Daddy, for blow-drying my hair. Thanks for staying with us for a couple of days; it really meant a lot to us. :)
