July 26 Disembark and Travel to Ed, Sweden

On Wednesday, July 26th, we docked back in Copenhagen, Denmark.  We disembarked and took two large taxi vans with all of our luggage clear across town to the airport to rent three cars to continue our journey.  Our destination that day was Ed, Sweden- a small town near where our Great-grandfather, Andreas Peterson was born.

A highlight of the trip was crossing the Oresund Bridge .  It connects Denmark with Sweden and is a beautiful engineering feat.

Waiting on a bench while the drivers rent the three cars. It took quite a while.

We stopped for lunch at a roadside restaurant.  Have you ever heard of a salmon truck stop?  Nearly everything in there was salmon.  We chose to eat upstairs at the salmon buffet.
The desserts were delicious.

There was ceviche'salmon, smoked salmon, baked salmon with many different flavors, salads, cheeses, salmon soup, etc.  It was all delicious.
When we got to Ed, we found the hotel that John had arranged for- the Hotel Dahlmann.  The door was locked and no one answered our knock.  There was a phone number on the door, but our call wouldn't go through.  A man drove by in a car.  He stopped and he told us this was no longer a hotel, but they were renting the rooms as apartments.  He lived in one of them.   Oh dear.  Ed is a small town and there really weren't other hotels.  Then Cindy tried the number again.   This time a lady answered.  She said our room keys and instructions were in the mailbox to the side of the door.  Sure enough, there were five large envelopes.  Each of us was assigned a room and had a key.  Relief.

The rooms really were more like apartments: living room, kitchen, bathroom, and two bedrooms.  We stayed there two nights.

That evening we went out to dinner at Ed's Diner.  The food was good and we made friends with the employees.

All of the employees were refugees relocated to Sweden.

After dinner, we went to a local grocery store and bought food for breakfast, then went back to the hotel to retire for the night.  I couldn't wait to get into bed.  I was so tired!
