Eden, Utah

On Saturday, July 31st we left for a three-week vacation.  We traded three time-share condos, a different one each week.  We chose mountain areas to get out of the heat.  We were somewhat successful.  We spent our first week in Eden, Utah- up near Pine View Reservoir.

Our accommodations were less than stellar- a yurt!

Just kidding.  We weren't in a yurt, but we weren't in a very great place.  It was very old and dark and dated and HOT !  It supposedly had air conditioning, but it wasn't very effective.   But it was clean and we survived.

I spent a lot of my time at the table writing the blog you are reading.  I had a lot of catch up to do.  I also indexed, worked on family history, worked on writing my stories and tributes to my parents.

It was the second week of the Olympics.  We tried to be on the couch at 6:00 pm each evening to watch the coverage of the Olympics.  We both love the Olympics.
On Sunday afternoon, we took a beautiful drive up Powder Mountain.
It was gorgeous up there.

A family of Dusky Grouse crossed the road right in front of us.  This guy was scared to and posed for this picture right outside my car window.

We were on top of the world- or at least on top of the Wasatch mountains.

The much-anticipated dark clouds loomed and thunder was rolling all around.  Rain fell that night.  It was the first rain there since May.

These pictures crack me up.  It was really windy up there.  Notice Ken's hair just stays in place while mine went wild!

The pictures don't do that gorgeous view justice.

A strange tree

For Sunday dinner, we made hamburgers

On Tuesday, we drove to Brigham City to attend the temple there.  This is a picture of the gorgeous tabernacle across the street from the temple.

This is the Brigham City temple. It was so wonderful to go inside.  We had appointments to do sealings and Initiatory ordinances.

Flowers on the temple grounds are always so gorgeous.  I take a picture or two at every temple we attend.

After the temple, we went to Maddox for dinner.  I loved the seafood salad I ordered.

The rolls and raspberry butter are so delicious.

Ken ordered their famous fried chicken

I had the halibut

I took some pictures of the gorgeous scenery on the drive home back over the mountain.

This picture isn't great, but these are buffalo.  Dozens of buffalo.

Ken enjoyed biking around the area during the week.  He found Pine View reservoir to be even lower than when we were here for our reunion.  He enjoys biking and it is easier on his knees than hiking.

On Thursday, we drove down and attended the Ogden temple.  We had appointments to do an endowment and a sealing session.  We love the Ogden temple.

After the temple, we had a delicious dinner at Kneaders in Ogden before driving back up the mountain.  On the way home, we took a detour and tried to visit the Pattersons in Huntsville.  The  Pattersons were our neighbors years ago.  Their daughter, Amanda came to our family home evening each week and went to Primary with our girls.  She had the discussions and Ken baptized her.  About a year later, her mother took the discussions and Ken baptized her, too.  Then they moved to Huntsville.  We had their address as I send a Christmas card each year.  They came down for Michelle and Brian's reception, but we hadn't seen them since.  Anyway, we talked to a man- the new owner of their old, beautiful pioneer home- and found they have moved,  He didn't know where.

This osprey nest was very close to our condo.  It reminded me of stork nests we saw in Eastern Europe.

On Friday, Ken was itching to hike some of the trails on Powder Mountain.  Though his knees said no, he did two hikes.  This one, for obvious reasons, was called Paper Airplane trail.

He then went on another trail- Woody's World Trail.  He was surprised to find this platform out in the middle of nowhere.

Saturday was pack up and leave day.  It was very, very smoky.  California fires caused Utah to be engulfed in thick smoke.
We had a nice week in Eden, but looked forward to the next week in Park City, Utah.  Stay tuned . . .
