Take a Hike

Ken and I had some deliveries to make up by the mountain, so stopped at Oyama park to take a little hike,  eat a snack,  and enjoy the beauty.

Oyama Park is on a mountain and overlooks our beloved Tsuruoka.

Tsuruoka

There's a big statue to someone up there, but we don't know who.

On the other side of the mountain is this beautiful lake.

The gate to the Jinja.  Above Ken's head are prayers people have tied onto the wire.

Tsuruoka.  You can see they are starting the rice growing process.  They have plowed the ground and are now flooding the fields.  The rice grown here in this region is supposed to be the best in the world.  And I believe it.  It is delicious!  Our house is out there beyond that green bridge and those dark green trees.

The hillside is lined with these beautiful flowering shrubs.  You can see the line of color from far away.

This is the view the other way- toward the lake.  That hillside across the way is just gorgous with every conceivable shade of green.

Thursday was Boy's Day or Children's Day or Golden Week or Something.  Anyway, they fly these large Koi Nobori "Fish Climbing"

These Koi Noburi's were so impressive out over the rice fields, but when we stopped to photograph them, the wind just wouldn't blow!

It was a sweet afternoon "hike" and break.

What a gorgeous, gorgeous country! I love all of the flowers! How fascinating to watch how things change in a strange new country as the seasons change. So many new things you are learning about differences from what we're used to in people, places and ways of doing things. I feel the spirit of a quest that you and Ken are on. You can entertain all of us for hours with your stories of experiences when you return.Have you found any Japanese fruit cnady wrapped in edible clear paper? Donna Joo used to give som of it to me and I thought it was so wonderful. Guess I was kinda of a foodie clear back then. Keep your wonderfuls reports coming in; I look forward to them!
