Celebrating Independence Day in Japan!

One of the purposes of our English classes is to present American culture, as well as teach English.  We do parties before each of the American holidays.  So this last week, we celebrated Independence Day- American-style!

The elders did a power point presentation to teach the basics.

This is our Tsuruoka group.

We played games and did the hokey pokey.

We served mini- hot dogs, potato salad, jello, patriotic popcorn, and other treats.

Tiny Jell-O salads

Hisako san made a delicious Japanese drink with mochi and fruit and yogurt.

Tortilla chips are not sold here. We buy them in Yamagata at Costco.  They love chips and salsa.

We gave them a little taste of American potato salad.

We have many children attend our Tsuruoka eikaiwa

Sakata

This was a fun getting to know you game.  You answer the question closest to your right thumb when you catch the ball.

Everyone loves the Hokey Pokey

You put your left knee in . . .

That's what it's all about!

Same fare as last night

Happy 4th of July from Japan!!!  And the best part . . . no more parties until Halloween!

The party you put on for the Japanese party is much more fun and festive than anything we are doing today. Great work!!

I'm amazed that you made those hot dog buns! That would be a lot of work, just that alone!
