“Willie Gillis: New Years Eve” by Norman Rockwell (1944)
Norman Rockwell's seventh Willie Gillis cover for the Saturday Evening Post, a New Year's special featuring Willie Gillis' hometown sweetheart peacefully asleep, watched over by photos of her hero. A clever example of the Rockwell's creative solution when his model, Robert Buck, left for active duty in the Navy and was no longer available to pose. Here, and in subsequent covers, Willie Gillis would appear only in photographs.
