Sorry, Dad

I've done it now. I've officially killed my Dad's beautiful shamrock plant. Those who knew my Dad know that he had an amazing green thumb and love for beautiful flowers and plants. Each of us who wanted one, inherited one of his beautiful plants when he died. I chose my favorite- the shamrock. I remember marveling at the big, bushy plant that grew in the family room. I loved how the leaves "closed" each night. Dad passed away five years ago this month, and I've kept it alive until now. As long as it lived, I felt that a little of him was still alive. I feel very sad.

What a sad story. Between the death of the shamrock, and Devin's Cubs losing, I've just read two very depressing blogs. At least you kept it alive for 5 years. I'm sure Dad would understand and want you to just start over with a new one. (:

This too touches a tender spot in my heart, since I destroyed the oldest surviving cactus I'd ever seen (one of Grandpa's too). I got it and it was on its last leg, nursed it back to health, got overly excited when it started turning green again, and then all of a sudden it collapsed in on itself, completely water-logged! I literally did it in. Over-watered the poor thing. It might have been hydro-phobic. I don't buy cactuses anymore....

What a sad story. Don't give up yet. Keep watering the soil, there may be a little sprout in there somewhere. I thought I had killed a plant a few months ago, and was still watering it in hopes it would revive. (I actually left the outdoor window open overnight and it froze--turned black and everything.) It did, it came back. Little tiny green shoots popped out of the soil. You can still save that Shamrock--I just know it!!!

That is a sad story! That reminds me I need to go water my grandpa plant. "Pete" didn't fit in the moving truck when we first moved to Provo--none of our plants did. A good friend, Heather, went to our house a couple of days after we moved to pick up my "grandpa plant" (as she called it). She kept it alive until we could get it last month. It is the only one of our plants that survived--all thanks to Heather. I wonder if we could get a start from "Pete" so you can have a part of grandpa in the house again...Sara, if it works, you could have one too!!

I think the plan missed him and wanted to go see him and grandma!! Don't plants and things kind of have spirits too?

Devin is feeling sad that he didn't get any plants. But we all know about the Devin curse so that is probably a good thing. Althought, maybe if he would have gotten the shamrock, the Cubs would have a bit more luck.
