London, England Day 1

After getting off the Enchanted Princess cruise ship in Southhampton, England on Wednesday, May 3rd, we traveled to London to spend the next few days there (see the story "Leader on the Bus" to read of some excitement on the way there.) We were there until May 9th, when we went back to Southhampton to board the Emerald Princess for our next cruise. That gave us five days to explore beautiful London.

Loading the buses to various destinations.  Ours was very late in arriving.

When we finally arrived at our hotel, we got unpacked and settled in our hotel room.  We then enquired about a good place to get fish and chips.  My foot was painful by then, and we walked quite a way to a recommended restaurant, only to find it closed.  We walked the streets, finally settling on a local pub.  We ordered the fish and chips.

Ken and I ordered lemonade. It was what we know as 7-up.  I guess that is what they call lemonade.

We also ordered fish and chips.  Ever since being in London 50 years ago, I've dreamed about going back and having fish and chips again. It was one of two things I remembered about London and wanted to share with Ken there. These weren't as good as I remembered.  We also were looking forward to the mushy peas usually served with fish and chips.  Here, we were served just regular peas. So that was disappointing.  But don't worry, we got better fish and chips, complete with mushy peas, a few days later!
After our meal, we had a chill, restful day.  Ken went out exploring for a bit, but mostly we relaxed and prepared for our London experience.  Ken and Don purchased our Hop on, Hop off bus tickets together, which proved to be a bit of a mistake.  It meant that to use them, we had to always go together with Don and Ada.  We had different interests, paces, and desires at times, making the planning each day a bit of a challenge.  But the bus company wouldn't let us separate the tickets. We used taxis a lot in London, too.
