Tony Mayoras Passes Away

A friend and neighbor passed away.  We went to the early senior hour at Costco one morning, and on our way home were passed by a firetruck with it's siren blaring.  When we got to our street, we could see the fire truck was at Mayoras' house, along with two ambulances and a police car.  Later, we learned that Linda had found Tony unconscious.  He sadly died the next day.

For several years, I visit taught Linda Mayoras.  I really loved her and her welcoming husband, Tony.  I occasionally would take treats and Tony loved that.  He especially loved little lemon cakes I made called Lemon Blossoms.  For the funeral luncheon, I volunteered to take a lemon cake, made with a similar recipe, to honor him.

Tony served our country in the Marine corps.  We were so touched to see his beloved, old truck with the flags behind the hearse as we drove up to the church for the funeral.  His daughter told us they were going to take him to the cemetery in the back of his beloved truck.

Family members followed in trucks, each with an American and a Marine Corp flag.  What a beautiful tribute to Tony, his service, and his values.

Tony will be missed.  It will be hard for dear Linda.
