Wonderful Weekend with the Prince Family

May 14th-16th, we traveled to South Jordan to watch grandkids in several events in their lives.

And to see Fred, of course.

William had to demonstrate his slam dunk skills.

William is a gifted musician.  I know grandparents like to brag, but he really has a gift.  In fact, his teacher just told his mom that she needs to find a better teacher for him because he needs someone that can help him develop his talents better.  He LOVES to sit down and play.  No one has to remind or nag him.  He played many songs for us.  Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho was his best which will be his recital piece.

This is his preferred way to sit at the piano.

On Thursday morning, we attended an award ceremony at the middle school where Jaron won the Wapiti Medallion Award.

Jaron is such a great kid.  He's solid.

The award winners.

Then we hurried over to the elementary school where Kenny participated in the fifth-grade Patriotic musical program.  It was AMAZING!  It was a celebration of the 250th anniversary of America.

Kenny is in top row right.  The kids knew every word and did their parts so well.  There weren't many dry eyes in the audience.  It was powerful!

These pictures are a bit scrambled, but this is a picture of William after his final soccer game of the season.  We were glad we got to watch him play in one.

After watching Kenny play in his basketball game.  He is really good.

On Friday night we attended a musical that Jaron and Gabbi participated in.  It was great!

Gabbi's solo.

Dancing a reel

Both of them played several parts.  This is Jaron as a pirate.

A very clever mop dance as they swabbed the deck.

This was such a cute song and dance.  Gabbi is a great actress.

Jaron's solo
Jaron stole the show as the goofy priest.  Gabbi was his assistant.

He was hilarious and had the audience rolling.

Curtain Call.  It was SO good!  We loved it.

Time to say goodbye

William wasn't going to let us go.

He decided he was going with us and wouldn't get out of the car.

Brian had to pull him out of the car and haul him inside.

We had such a great weekend with the Prince family.

Andelin's Gable House

Andelin's Gable House was a favorite restaurant in St. George.  It was in a beautiful old home and had an old English theme.  The dishes were pewter and the waitresses wore English maid costumes.  The food was absolutely delicious.  Mike Andelin was the chef.

They were clients of Ken's and we often traded services, so we ate there often.  You could choose the five-course meal or order off the menu.  Everything was so good.

I have their cookbook and make several of their dishes regularly.  We miss Andelin's Gable House.  Seeing this ad is certainly a blast from the past.

My Friends

Fiction   Audio book

For warmth, literary development, characterization, compelling story= 5 stars.  It is a beautiful book of friendship and acceptance.

For foul language= 2 stars   Wow!  It’s terrible.  Mostly the bad language comes just from one character. One very foul-mouthed character.  I think it makes it worse when you listen to an audiobook.  Very well-read audio, by the way.

So what do I rate it?  I guess a 3.  But that is sad because it is so good.

Papa Married a Mormon

Non- Fiction Physical book
Years ago, our family read the Great Brain series together, written by this same author. They are great family books! This book is the beginning of the story. Fitzgerald recounts the history of the silver mining town in our county, Silver Reef. It was called Silverlode then. He tells how his father came there and courted and married a Mormon girl from the nearby Mormon settlement. It is such a great story. He then gives their family’s history, ending with his father’s death. I loved this book. It was informative and so entertaining. I add Mama to my ever-growing list of literary heroes. She is such a great example in so many ways. 5 stars.

Wish You Well

Historical Fiction   Physical Book

This is the first book I’ve read of the prolific writer David Bidalchi.  I understand that this is very different than his normal genre.  If you are a teenager or even pre-teen, you should read this book.  It is a well-written beautiful story of two children who are in a terrible accident and go to live with their great grandmother, Louisa Mae in the mountains of Virginia.  They learn to work hard and learn what is important in life. I add Louisa Mae and Cotton Longfellow (the lawyer that helps the family) to my list of literary heroes.  5 stars
