Falmouth, England

Monday, May 2nd was one of my favorite days/ ports.  It was a last-minute addition/ change to the itinerary.  We were getting used to changes by then.  But it was a delightful change.  It was a small village where the people were truly happy we were there.

This was one of the few pictures we got with Melanie and Kevin.  We were with them for the first part of the day.
Our ship had to anchor at sea and tenders were used to transport us ashore. Our ship was too big for their tiny dock.

There, we were greeted warmly by the mayor and mayoras (his wife.)

Can you believe that?  The mayor greeted every guest.

We had such a nice day walking around this little village.  The day before I had developed a blister, so wanted to be careful not to do too much walking to let my foot heal.  We had a lot of trip ahead of us.  I needed my feet!

This village is in the Cornwall area of England.  If you watched the show Doc Martin, it was set and filmed in this area. Portwenn was a fictional town, but similar to this cute village.  I thought this street looked so much like the one in the show leading down to the sea.

Doesn't it look like the setting for Doc Martin? This street reminds me of where Louisa lived.

We climbed up and went inside this beautiful church.

The people inside were so kind and welcoming.

Prayer cushions hung on the backs of the pews.  Many of them had handmade needlepoint covers.

One of the reasons we loved the town so much was this cute couple.  They ran a shop called "The Black Pearl."  We had such a fun time visiting with them and listening to their fun accent.  They said that the mayor walks down the street every Friday, wearing his chains,  and stops in at all the shops to say hello and visit.

Picture taken outside the Black Pearl.  I bought a scarf there and other souvenirs in other shops.

On the tender on the way back to the ship.  We went back to the ship and had lunch at the pizza restaurant, Gigi's.  We hadn't known before then that there was no charge to eat at Gigi's.  We had minestrone soup and calzones.  Delicious!  I wish we had discovered this restaurant earlier!
After lunch at the ship, Ken went back over to town to bird while I rested my foot, took a nap and studied for upcoming Sunday school lessons.  Following are some shots he took on his return trip.

Falmouth is cold in the winter, but is a summer beach holiday destination.  That cute couple in The Black Pearl told us that the beach and town are packed in the summertime.

There were a few people on the beach

You can see our ship in the distance.

We loved Falmouth, England.  Everyone was so friendly and welcoming.  Their transport system from the dock to town was so organized and efficient.  It was one of our favorite ports.
