What Did the Prophet Ask Us to Do? April, 2026

What Did the Prophet Ask Us to Do?

April, 2026

Be a Peacemaker!

Strive to follow our Savior in His teachings about how to relate to one another.

Seek to live peaceably and lovingly with other children of God who don’t share our values and do not have covenant obligations.

We should seek fairness for all.

Forgo harsh and hurtful words in all our communications

Choose to be peacemakers now and always

As followers of Christ, let us follow Him by forgoing contention and by using the language and methods of peacemakers.

Walk with Jesus Christ

Abide in Him

Follow His example of ministering one by one in charity and love

Demonstrate His pure love in our families, communities, and in all of our interactions.

General Conference April, 2026

General Conference was again, a magnificent, uplifting experience.  It started with a solemn assembly where we sustained our new prophet and leaders.

The apostles sustaining.

Our newest apostle gave his first speech as an apostle.

Landmark day.

Love Elder Kearon and loved this talk.  He just exudes joy.

Our delicious Easter dinner after conference.

We love general conference!

What Did the Prophet Ask Us to Do?

General Conference, October 2025 was held during the transition between prophets- an apostolic interregnum. I always comb through the prophet's talks, looking for specific things he asks us to do. For this conference, since the quorum of the apostles is our governing head, I chose the main theme from each of their talks to focus on.

General Conference Weekend

On Thursday we traveled from Park City to Logan to spend time with Camerons and for dental work.  Ken had his teeth cleaned.  I had my cleaning and some oral surgery in preparation for a tooth implant.  We so appreciate Blake and his care of us.  We enjoyed dinner out on Friday night and then watching the BYU game.  Wow!   These BYU games are absolutely thrilling!

General Conference was absolutely wonderful.  We watched all of the Saturday sessions with the Camerons.

Watching our Cougars!
We left early on Sunday morning to drive to South Jordan to spend the morning and watch the Sunday morning session with the Princes.

William showed us his magnificent collecion of dragon eggs.  Boy, these are the rage!

Brielle came from Provo to spend the day, too.  The Princes fed us a delicious breakfast and lunch.

Michelle made pans of Cinnamon rolls.  Jaron was thrilled to see so many.
We left after lunch to head for home.  We listened to the afternoon session on the way home.
Later, Brian texted this picture with the label, "Wholesome recreational activities."  I love how this family embraces Brielle and makes a safe place for her to spend family time fairly close to BYU.

It was such a wonderful conference weekend.  As we often do, we all texted each other our favorite conference talks.  Some mentioned:
Elder Stevenson on Peacemakers
Elder Brown ; "Dude, He be testifyin" quipped 15-year-old Jaron
Sister Browning on Primary music
Elder Gong: No one sits alone
Elder Barcello: The Lord Looketh on the Heart
Elder Webb: That all may be edified
President Jeffrey R. Holland: Beautiful and powerful testimony
President Oaks:  Family
Elder Kearon:  Jesus Christ
Elder Uchtdorf: Do your part with all your heart

How we love general conference.  Now to study the talks for the next months and follow inspiration given as we do.

Contention

I read and study President Nelson's April 2025 talk every couple of weeks.  This week I was looking up all the footnotes and found this gem of a statement by President Nelson.

"Choosing to contend with others is choosing to live without the guidance of the Holy Ghost."

Wow!  That is powerful.  I have often pondered what it is I want most for myself and for my posterity.  I decided that the thing I want most is to have the guidance of the Holy Ghost for myself and for them.  Then I read this statement and realized how important it is to avoid contention.

I shared this quote with my family via our group text.  I got back some very though-provoking responses.  One from Blake was especially enlightening.  He suggested that there is a big difference between contention and conflict.  Conflict is a normal part of life between two people.  We have differences of opinion.  But contention comes from the heart, and we need help from God to rid ourselves of it.  He said a lot of other powerful things on this subject.

We need to eliminate contention from our lives.

What Did the Prophet Ask Us to Do? April, 2025

What Did the Prophet Ask Us to Do?

To have confidence in the presence of God, we must:

1.     Have true charity toward all men.

a.     “It is imperative that we have charity in our discourse, both public and private.”

b.     “Contention prevents the Holy Ghost from being our constant companion.”

c.      “Let us plead with our Heavenly Father to fill our hearts with greater charity.”

2.     The Lord tells us to garnish our thoughts unceasingly with virtue.

a.     “Brothers and sisters, as the world grows more wicked, we need to grow increasingly pure. Our thoughts, words, and actions need to be unfailingly virtuous and filled with the pure love of Jesus Christ towards all men. The great opportunity before us is to become the people God needs us to be.

3.      Temple.   “Regular worship in the house of the Lord increases our capacity for both virtue and charity.

a.     “Increased time in the temple will help us prepare for the Second Coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

“I invite you to take intentional steps to grow in your confidence before the Lord.

“I testify that Jesus Christ, the Redeemer of Israel, leads this, His Church. He is preparing to come again. May we likewise prepare to receive Him.

Caldwell, Idaho!!!!

My hometown is Caldwell, Idaho.  You can only imagine how thrilled I was when Caldwell, Idaho was announced as a location of a future temple at general conference!

When I grew up, there was only one temple in Idaho- in Idaho Falls.  That was about a 6 1/2 hour trip away from Caldwell.  I think this will make eight temples in Idaho!

My brother and brother-in-law were both stake presidents in Caldwell and very involved in the growth there.  My brother serves as a Patriarch there still.  This is such wonderful news for a Caldwell girl!

A Princely Visit

The Princes came to visit for conference weekend.  Ken was still in the Phillipines, but I very much enjoyed their visit.

They came to my very first Keynote assisted living performance.  More pictures of that below.

Gabbi loves to steal my phone and leave happy surprises.  This isn't the first time.
They went on a hike in Snow Canyon.  They were so lucky to see an endangered desert tortoise.

They played tennis. Nowadays it's the only time our rackets get used.

And played at our neighborhood park

We played games.

Michelle doesn't buy chips very often, so was hording ours.  She is so funny.

Keynotes sang at an assisted living center.  It was so fun to have the family there.

General conference.  They all took notes and played conference listening games.

Especially the younger boys love to play on our Wii.

My conference cuddle buddy.

It was so fun to have the Prince family visit!  I love them so much!
