Copenhagen, Denmark, Day 1

On Friday afternoon, April 22nd, we arrived in Copenhagen, Denmark.  We were supposed to go to Skaagen, Denmark that day, but the winds were too strong at the Skaagen port, so the ship's captain didn't feel it was safe to go to Skaagen.  So he went past and on to Copenhagen.  That gave us an extra day in Copenhagen.  We stayed in Copenhagen until about noon on Sunday, the 24th.

On Friday afternoon (we didn't arrive until 2:30pm, then it takes awhile to get clearance to go ashore), we got off the ship and took the free bus/ shuttle into town.  We spent five days in Copenhagen in 2019, so had seen a lot of the main attractions. But, we really wanted to go back to the church where Thorvalson's statues of Christ and apostles are displayed.  So we walked/hustled from the town square to get there.  We barely made it in time to have some time there before the church closed at 5:00pm.

I love walking through Copenhagen.  It is a beautiful city.  It is kind of like walking through Disneyland, though.  It is full of people.

Copenhagen is so beautiful.  This is one of my favorite pictures from the trip.

Crowded and exciting

It was wonderful to see the Christus and apostle statues again.  Ken took a picture of each one, and we both took several other pictures.

Organ music was playing

We were rushed.  But we have both wished since that we had taken time to sit and ponder all that our Savior has done and does for us.

After visiting the church, we stopped at this little pastry/ candy shop.

The very helpful clerk and a customer behind us in line recommended the Romkugler.  Oh my, they were delicious chocolate balls. If you are ever in Denmark, be sure you try one!  So good!

Downtown Copenhagen.  I love the pedestrian streets.

These funny statues were intriguing.

We walked back to the town square (at a more leisurely pace) and enjoyed the ambience.  We caught the shuttle back to the ship in time for a late dinner.  It was such a nice day.

This marked the end of our first cruise.

We love Copenhagen, too! So much charm - lots of bicycles, best pastry anywhere and tasty open-faced sandwiches! The Christus and aposles are marvelous sculptures with so much intricate detail and each with its own personality and expression. I understand why the Christus is the one the church uses.
