Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Wow! I was there. This author created the scenes in such complete detail that I felt the hunger, the cold, the exquisite pain, the fear, and the sadness. What a great writer. This is the true story of the greatest maritime disaster in the history of the world, told in fictionalized stories of several that managed to get aboard the doomed ship. You grow to love the characters and hope for their deliverance at every turn in their journey.
If it weren’t so sad, I would give it a 5. Almost every page was sad. Still, I am glad I read it.
