Scripture Study

After the temple session, we sat in the celestial room.  Across the room from me was a dear man of African American descent.  I watched him as he studied his scriptures.  He read, scanning the words with his finger.  Keeping his finger on that page, he turned to another page, obviously studying a cross reference.  He read that verse, then went back to the original verse and read it again.  Back and forth, he would flip the pages, studying intently.  Soon, he turned to another verse, and on and on.  He was truly studying the scriptures.  He did this over and over, truly absorbing what he was reading and learning.  This went on for quite some time.  Then, bending over, he lowered the book between his knees, bowed his head, closed his eyes and prayed.

I cannot get this image out of my mind.  I learned so much in those few minutes that I observed him.  I learned what it meant to read, study, and ponder the scriptures.  I learned what true devotion was.  Thank you, dear brother.  You have made a difference in my life without even knowing I was observing you.  Thank you.
