The Girl They Left Behind by Roxanne Veletzos
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I loved this historical fiction book, based on a true story. It is a beautiful, emotional story set in WWII Romania. In order that they all survive, a Jewish couple must leave their little girl in a hotel lobby, hoping someone will find her and care for her. It is the story of that little girl’s life (the author’s mother) and the kind and good people that adopt her, love her, and care for her. This is a page-turner, presenting the horrors of war, but also the love that overcomes all.
