In preparing for the Sunday School lesson a while back (I teach Gospel Doctrine) I ran across this phrase in Mark 14:8 "She hath done what she could.":
8- She is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying. She hath done what she could."
It is near the end of Jesus' life. A woman (Mary we learn in other gospels) pours expensive anointing oil on Jesus just before the feast of the Passover or the Last Supper. Judas criticizes (like he has room to criticize anyone!) her actions. Jesus corrects him, saying, "She hath done what she could."
What a great lesson here. None of us can do everything. But each of us needs to do what we can. Each of us has a circle of influence. We can make a big difference in others' lives by doing small, simple things as prompted. I am so grateful for people in my life that have done what they could to make my life better: receiving a card at just the right moment, given the perfect gift, texting, making a spirit-filled comment in Sunday School, inviting me to participate in something, etc If we all do what we can, what a beautiful world we will create!
"I will do what I can" is a mantra to consider.
