The Knights were in
our ward when Ken was bishop over 20 years ago. They are no longer in our ward, but Ken has kept in contact with them through the years. A couple of months ago, they- the parents, Sue and Merrill were sealed in the temple. It was a sweet experience. Then last Saturday, their son, Jessie was married in the temple. Because they have many family and friends that could not attend the temple ceremony, they asked Ken to conduct a ring ceremony for Jessie and his bride, Becky. He said yes, not realizing what
it was going to involve. Oh my. The ring ceremony was to be held out at the driving range of the Sand Hollow Resort golf course in
Hurricane. It was absolutely
gorgeous. So we go expecting this little
ring ceremony. Oh, no. It was HUGE.
There were so many people there- probably close to 300. They had it set up with
fancy chairs and a canopy and rose petals all over. Ken had to march down the aisle first, then
the wedding party, then of course, the bride.
I’m sure Ken was scared, but he did great job explaining to the many people there what had just happened in the temple. The reception/ dinner after was wonderful! Everyone was assigned to a beautiful table. They had hired a band from Vegas to play and there were Hawaiian dancers since the bride is from Hawaii. They announced the bridal party and they came in dancing Gangham- style (both the bride and groom are half Korean) It was so cute. The catered dinner was delicious and the company at our table, delightful. It was a huge, extravaganza of a wedding. But the best part of all came at the very end when the groom spoke. I wish I could quote him exactly, but in his speech he thanked everyone, then said something like this: “ We’ve had a BIG party here. Everything was Big (you can say that again!). But I promise you Becky, that in our marriage I will focus on the little things day by day that make you happy and I will love you with a BIG heart. “ Ahhhhh. Melt my heart. Can you think of a better wedding speech?
